"D" Division Roster

The roster of Kootenay Post's "D" Division for 1887 and 1888 was reconstructed through the efforts of Ms. Catherine Conroy in the fall of 1996. Although a few preliminary efforts had been made, no one party had ever compiled a complete personnel roster of "D" Division prior to Ms. Conroy. Names of personnel were often hard to find due to research difficulties caused by lack of records and by other mitigating circumstances-i.e. the amount of men who deserted Kootenay Post and had to be replaced by new personnel.

Ms. Conroy examined all available documents, letters and rosters regarding the men of "D" Division in order to compile this list. This roster is divided into three parts: men who are mentioned as NWMP serving at Kootenay, men who were not NWMP but who served the division, and men mentioned later in a partial Roster of "D" Division (after they had returned to Fort Macleod). All served "D" Division in some capacity while they manned Kootenay Post, or in the period after 1888 by which time the division had returned to Fort Macleod.
